April 25 - Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang), Malaysia
Wow, now I know what it feels like to be in Florida in August! We arrived at Port Klang and it was 95 degrees with 95% humidity, but we soldiered on......to our air conditioned bus for a tour of Kuala Lumpur.
Our first stop was at the Batu Caves. It is a cave complex, and also the most popular Hindu shrine outside of India. It has 272 steps up to the caves. A 43m (140 ft) high statue of Murugan (god of war and victory), which stands vigilant outside the caves. It is the second-tallest Murugan statue in the world.
My view as I head up. Mind you there were monkeys everywhere. YUCK!! They steal things
Halfway up - There are 16 sets of 17 steps
Once I got to the top it was intriguing.
No one said there would be MORE steps! I enjoyed the actual caves more than the shrines
View on the way down
We cooled off in the bus and headed to lunch. I really enjoyed the food, Just glad we didn't eat at 'House of Fish Head Curry'. LOL
Then it was off to the KL Tower, 421m (1381 ft) high, I'm glad they had an elevator.
Here are views of Kuala Lumpur, from the observation deck of the tower. First picture is wide angle (range) view, second is focusing on a cool structure, in that view.
We did a quick photo shot of Independence Square. It was here that the Union Flag was lowered and the Malaysian flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957.
And the Twin Towers.
Down Town, Old and New
Cool Structures
Old Train Station
Funny, driving on the highway to get from Port Klang to Kuala Lumpur (and back), it feels like I'm back in Florida
Note of Interest/Fun Fact - I had to come all the way over to Malaysia to be shown the first flag of America, while it was under British control (shown in the first picture). Later after the revolutionary war, we kept the stripes, but added stars to represent the states. The Malaysia flag also had stripes to represent the equal status in the federation of the 13 member states. They too, kept the stripes and added the Crescent Moon and Sun.
