January 27 - Prep for Machu Picchu

Tomorrow we head to Machu Picchu from Pisco. We leave at O'dark thirty. We spend 1/2 a day traveling to Cusco and then we do some sightseeing. I will be staying at the five star Hotel Monasterio, which in its former life was a monastery. I am soooo looking forward to a hot bath! Then they will be hosting a Gala for us at an old convent. The next day we head to Machu Picchu. There is currently a train strike going on, so fingers crossed we make it there. Then it's back to our hotel and the next day we catch up with our Ship/Home in Lima.

For those of you keeping up with this journal, here is something to entertain you. Here are some towel animals my steward has been leaving me. Can you believe it, it's been 7 weeks since the start of this adventure. Time flies when you are having fun!

December 13 - Cozemel - Chichen Itza

Today we headed to Chichen Itza, 1 of the 11 Wonders of the World. We had to be at our tour station by 6:45am, even before the sunrise. Then we took a Ferry from Cozemel (an island) to Playa De Carmen on the mainland Then a Bus to Yucatan And four hours later we are at Chichen Itza.  It is the former home of the great Maya civilization, the ruins features 6 square miles of ancient structures. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site   Me at the El Castillo - the Great Pyramid of Kukulkan   The Temple of the Warriors The largest preserved Mayan Ballpark in the world. The little circle is what they have to get the ball in - Kind of like Harry Potter Temple of the Jaguars And the Observatory as seen from the Hotel where we had a very nice lunch. Now can you see the Observatory Lunch time entertainment     My first new key chain - only 100 or so to go. Hahaha
