March 14 - Cairns/Yorkey's Knob, Australia

As I said in an early post, I had 2 opportunities schedule to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef. And since I achieved that yesterday, I gave my excursion, to the platform, to a friend who got his reef visit canceled yesterday. That left me with a quiet and kick back kind of day in Cairns.

We ported at Yorkey's Knob and tendered in. The sea appeared flat, however the swells started up around mid-morning and the tender operations got halted for quite a while. No stress here, as I had nothing scheduled to do.

I finally made it to port and found Yorkey's Knob to be a pleasant little town. I could definitely live here.

The residences were quaint. With a boat in every yard

There was a lot of wide open space

Then it was off to Cairns via a short bus ride.
You can tell this is a young persons town.
Most things don't open till 4ish and it looks like a few were sleeping off last night's adventures

They have a local "lagoon", as the water is not very enticing and there was no beach.

I found the local Yacht Club, however it wasn't open

This is a cool sculpture by a local artist, titled "Citizens Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef"

Cairns has a sister city back in the States - Scottsdale, Arizona.

Aboriginal Art, found in the center of town. There were others but there was too much sun for good pics.

Only cool structure in the area.

Finally - Happy Birthday to my brother, Brian. You met him in my Kona post
