January 9 - Puerto Madryn, Argentina
Today started out cold - OK, it was only 63 F and got up to 73 F. Cold for Floridians
Puerto Madryn is a nice little town and as Argentina goes it wasn't threatening at all. View from my balcony
If I forgot to mention I was told Argentina has a high crime rate as does Brazil. Somehow Uruguay, sandwiched between the two does not. There were folks from the ship that went on a private excursion in Recife and were robbed at gun point. And two gentlemen from the ship had their phones snatched out of there hands in Buenos Aires by someone on a scooter. And another guy had his iWatch cut right off his wrist while walking to a private Tango show.
It was very windy in Puerto Madryn, approximately 25 to 30 kts /28 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph and we had to walk the length of the pier which was about 1/2 mile. It was a good thing we walked as we saw these seals and sea lion (sea lions have ear flaps, seals don't) sunning themselves on the steps up to the pier.
Nadine and I decided just to spent our day walking around the town. She got a manicure and I went shopping in a grocery store.
The town is located
on a huge beach.
Typical Argentine Beef House window display
There was a plaza
or two. Here was one dedicate to Jose de San Martin, the liberator of Argentina. The other picture is a statue dedicated to Mothers in general
And some artwork.
On our way back to
the boat we saw jellyfish. Very large and numerous. Every one of those white dots is a jellyfish except for the last picture. Those dots are reflections from the sun.
