January 10 - On our way to Antarctica

Today we started to rock and roll on our way to the Antarctic. The winds were sustained 48kts / 55mph and when squaws rolled through it got up to 64kts / 73.6mph (hurricane force winds). And the Captain kindly suggested we not go out on decks 5, 11 or 12. I love his sense of humor. Hahaha.

I'm ok, as the rocking and rolling just makes me sleepy. For others it was time to get the barf bags out.

Captain Stig gave a talk about the weather and sea conditions on our route to Antarctica. As I mentioned a couple of days ago, we have reversed our itinerary due to high winds and waves

If we had stayed on the initial itinerary we would have been hitting waves 8.6m / 28.2ft. Now it will be a mere 5.9m /19.2ft.

Will still plan to get to Antarctica, however there is always an option B and/or C

Good news, we may get to see the largest Iceberg of record - A23

Remember, I told you Captain Stig had a good sense of humor...
First the crew now knew to say, when getting the captain's attention to answer questions, port or starboard. The new quote was when a person asked a question about the "boat" and the Captain, chuckled and said "you do know the difference between a boat and and a ship?" The  person didn't and he said a boat is what you look for when a ship is sinking. The second quote of the day was when someone asked him about the Celebrity ship, which is near us, and whether or not we are concerned? His answer was that he was not concerned about them, however they should be concerned about us! Because he was able to steer directly to the pier in Buenos Aires while it took 2 tug boats to get Celebrity to the pier.

The Drake Passage is tomorrow, and I'm battening down the hatches.
