December 21 - St George's, Grenada

Today we are in Grenada, the Island of the Spices, and it was a little misty.

However, regardless of the weather, I like this island better than Barbados as it is definitely hillier.

The right picture is St. George's Catholic Church or the Immaculate Conception Cathedral on the top of Church Street (and as seen from the ship). Mind you it is a free religious country and the church on the right is the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church of St.George's. And it really towers over the city scape

We visited the new Parliament Building.

Fort Frederick.

Here is a view of the Caribbean from Fort Frederick

And we were suppose to see the Atlantic from the Fort, but as I said, it was a little misty

We also went to Quarantine Park. The park was named because in the 1800s, whenever there was a virus breakout; polio, scarlet fever, chickenpox, etc. people were banned to this part of the island. Here is a view of Quarantine Park from the harbor

This is a close up of Quarantine Park as seen the left hand side of the photo above

and a view of my home from the park.

Three Mile Beach

This could be my next home

I have to say that the road system of Grenada is crazy! There are 270-degree curves everywhere. The roads are small, with barely enough room for 2 cars. And people park on the road which makes the traffic go gingerly around them without running head on into oncoming traffic.  And there is even foot traffic in the Sendall Tunnel

Here is our driver, who got us back to the ship alive. 😀 I was on a Scenic Tour, however, our driver was kind enough to show us, and let us smell the spices of the island, thus the nickname, Spice Island. He showed us all the stages of a nutmeg and cocoa (chocolate). And we got to experience real cinnamon as it came off a tree and finally turmeric. What a great Guy!

Yes, for those of you astute enough, you see I am sans my ALA 2007 Fishing Derby baseball hat. Sadly, I left it on the tour bus and hopefully it will enjoy its new owner and continue to have adventures. My true regret, is because it had my favorite dumb, dumb strap attached. Oh Well. 😦 If any one has s Quantum cap strap I will gladly compensate you.
