September 3 - New York, New York, USA
We arrived in the Big Apple and tonight I'm going to a Broadway Play, 'The Notebook' I can't wait (more about that later)
But first, I got up at an ungodly hour (3am) to watch our approach, past the Verrazano Bridge and the Statue of Liberty
We actually ported at the Manhattan Cruise terminal, as opposed to the Bayonne, New Jersey terminal. So we were a hop, skip and a jump from Broadway and Times Square. As I said we had plans to go to 'The Notebook' but that wasn't until 7:00 so we walked around a little.
We saw the Intrepid
The tall buildings of Manhattan
The place that looked like where they filmed the TV show, Taxi
And other local scenery
It was then time to head to our Broadway Play. We stopped at John's Pizzeria, supposedly the best pizza in town, according to the locals. It was great New York style pizza, however, I'm a Chicago style pizza fan.
Then it was on to the play. I had never seen the movie or read the book, so I didn't know the plot or the premise and ended up being thoroughly confused. You see the actors changed color and heights throughout the story. The elderly women being read to (from the notebook) was tall and white, and her teenager self was white but short, while she became a tall black women in her late 20s. On the other had the man reading the notebook was short and black, while his teenage counterpart was a tall white boy only to become a short white guy in his late 20s. And to totally confuse me, the friends never changed color or height. I tried desperately to figure out the storyline. At intermission I was told to stop focusing on color but to accept all three couple (old, teenager and late 20s), were the same couple. My only comeback was what about the height changes. In the end, it was a great love story and I decided I needed to read the book
Cool Structures of NY (the most notable to be mentioned tomorrow)
