July 2 - Carrara (Pisa), Italy

Most people associate Livorno as the port for excursions to Florence and Pisa. However in the past year, or so, the fees at the port have gone up 300%. So now cruise ships are coming into Carrara, Italy. I wasn't going to go to either Pisa or Florence so I figured I would walk around. They too, had a Yacht Club and I was determined to go there, after prior failed attempts (Naples, etc.).
And look, I made it and got myself a club shirt

Their facilities were great, it was all about sailing, the clubhouse and bar/dining area was quite small

And they were hosting The Optimist European Championship. Looks like 100+ Optis.

I do have to say for such a large event they were able to improvise on parking

Carrara is not a tourist destination, but rather a typical Italian city. So no postcards or keychains could be found anywhere!

Sights around town.

Something whimsical

Carrara is one of the White Marble locations. More marble has been extracted from the over 650 quarry sites near Carrara than from any other place. Here are the scarred marble mountain and the marble ready to be shipped to wherever.
