June 19 - Ravenna, Italy

We are here in Ravenna for an overnight, so folks can go to Venice, if they are so inclined. I don't have any excursions planned, primarily because I've been to Venice a couple of times and don't need to go back. And, I'm also done with wineries.

This is the view from the ship as we pulled in to port, sailboats as far as the eye can see.

The river that separates us from the marina area. Maybe I'll go there tomorrow and find the Ravenna Yacht Club

I joined Dion and Sue and we took the shuttle into town. We were joined by John Q and Leslie. Here are some pictures as we headed into town.

Old wall of the city

A couple of residences at the port. Last picture is of a house that occupies a left over part of a castle.

I found this fascinating - all these houses have large fishing nets, that drop into the river and then they haul up their catch.

When the shuttle dropped us off downtown, Ravenna, we all looked around and said, OK where do we go from here. So we headed off in a random direction and this is what we came across.

Some Monuments

The not so leaning tower of Ravenna (hahaha), which was The Basilica di Dant' Apollinare Nuovo

The Basilica di Santa Maria  and other churches

Views of downtown

A Government Building

And the Train Station

Other Interesting Sights

Residences in Town

This building looks like the B-21, Raider to me. Actually it's the Planetarium

And this a jungle gym for kids

Sue and John then found places to get their hair cut so the rest of us just hung out. Dion found the mosaic place, which Ravenna is know for. I, on the other hand, went looking for postcards and key chains. Later we all met up at a great pizza place.
Nothing beats pizza and beer in Italy
