May 1 - Cochin, India

We are on our way to the Taj Mahal today, but first.....

A huge storm rolled in last night just as we were leaving. The first three pictures, were taken by my friend, Pam. The last is my sorry attempt at photography

Now back to the Taj Mahal.
We left from Cochin port. First we took a bus to the Airport. There was crazy, crazy traffic. Then all of a sudden we weren't moving and everyone was honking at us. Well, come to find out the bus broke down. The guide told us not to worry, that there were buses behind us, who would stop and take us to the airport. NOT! They all went by and waved to us. Finally another bus was called and we transferred to it in the middle of a 3 lane road.
Here are some sights - coming into port. Some nice waterfront properties

Needless to say we got to the Delhi airport about 1.5 hours late. We were hustled through check-in and were told no electronics or batteries in the checked luggage. OK, what they didn't tell us was the electronics in our carry-on had to taken out, as it went through the scanner.....another delay. Oh and by the way we could take all the water and lotions we wanted in our carry-ons. Bottom line is we took off about an hour late, I'm glad it was a chartered flight.  We stayed at the ITC (India Tabaco Company) Maurya (a Marriott) in Delhi. It was a nice hotel and I got a penthouse room. Too tired to take pictures

We were also presented with leis. Little did I know they were mosquito repellents (marigolds).

We finally sat down for Dinner at about 10:00pm.
