March 20 - Benoa (Bali), Indonesia

Bali (Hai) - I have arrived

And where Lombok was the Island of 1000 Mosques, Bali is the Island of 1000 Temples and statues of their gods

The town was quite clean. Mainly because they had street sweepers

Traffic was worse than Lombok. And I have no idea how they know which bike is theirs in this parking lot?!?

I went on the Authentic Balinese Remains excursion, and we started at Penglipuran, a Balinese village to see firsthand how life was like, more than a century ago and which is essentially unchanged.

Temple Art Work

We had a nice Warung Guilung lunch at Bali Rural Commune, which is a rice farm

There was music and good food

We even had local beer and fresh coconut for dessert

We then headed to Klungkung Kertha Gosa, a building designed and built in 1710 by the best artisans in the country

Elaborate carvings and ceiling art work

Kertagoa (Royal Court of Justice)

Bale Kambang (floating pavilion)

We finally went to a Batik Gallery. Batik is a form of art that uses wax-resist dyes applied to cloth. I bought a piece of art and they decorated my hat for free.

Some locals getting ready for a ceremony

Others were off to a cleansing ritual and they are allowed to borrow the military vehicles if they aren't being used.

Some Residences

And Cool Structure. It's a toll plaza to the port

The lone mosque

The tourist town, most people visiting Bali see. Not very Balinese
