January 24 - Coquimbo, Chile

We ported in Coquimbo, which looks very much like Valparaiso, in that it is a port town built into the hills.

It's predominate monument is a cross on top of a very poor section of town- Cruz Del Tercer Milenio. It was built to welcome in the new millennium. There is a museum at the base of the cross and you can go up into its cross beam and have a panoramic view of the city

Another prominent feature of the city is the Mosque, again built on top of a hill to rival the cross.

We went to Half Moon Bay, to get a perspective of the city.

There were some unique sculptures there.

Some fun sights along the way.

Residential areas

We rode along the seashore on our way to La Serena

Watching the fishermen waiting for the weather to calm to head out in their boats.

Some sights from the ship and a close up of how they are built into the mountain.

Back on the ship some pirates tried to commandeer our ship. I wasn't too worried as I have faith in Captain Stig, and besides all the crew had life preservers on, so I figured they didn't know how to swim. In the end they ended up fighting each other. I wonder who won.
