December 24 - Sea Day

Today was a "planned" sea day. Always fun with lots to do.

On sea days we always play progressive trivia. More about that later.

After trivia I went back to Art & Crafts to make another door decoration. This time I followed the directions. I was joined by Aussie Karen, who is the 3rd top tier guest with over 2800+ sailing points.

I still think my prior door decoration came out better. This one just doesn't hang well on the door. Knowing me, I missed a crucial direction.

I watched the movie Club Paradise with Robin Williams.

And I attended Captain Stig’s Artic and Antarctic Lecture. He was born and raised in Norway and he showed us pictures of his restored yacht, his home and the Aurora Borealis. He told us we probably won’t be seeing the Aurora Borealis on this trip as we will be there at the wrong time of the year. He also showed us how beautiful the Summer is in Norway. It is clear and a balmy 75 degree and the sun shines 23.5 hours of the day.

Then they started with the questions and answers. At first, they were reasonable questions, like will we be seeing iceberg A-23 (the largest known iceberg). He said probably not, however they were monitoring the flow and if we got close, we might attempt a drive-by. Sorry sail/motor-by. Also, he will try his best to get us to the Antarctic circle, assuming the ice is OK and our ice pilots permit it. Ice pilots will be joining us in Argentina and they will be getting off in Peru. Captain Stig is very familiar with ice cruising, although, it’s always good to know we will have professionals on board.

Then the questions went sideways! One person said his shore excursion had been canceled and wanted to know if the captain knew why. Captain Stig, very tactfully, said he would have someone look into it. Then someone asked it the captain could get a specific movie shown in the theater on a specific day, in which Stig said "you realize, I navigate and command the ship"! I had to laugh.

I laughed a second time when the staff would bring the Captain's attention to the person asking the question by saying house right of center left, and he responded with "you know you're on a ship and we say port or starboard". 😂

After dinner it was off to the show and then home to cabin 1516 to bed. No, I'm not in the bowels of the ship on the first floor. I'm actually on the tenth floor, right below the treatment rooms. Ahhhh, so quiet

Comments

  1. I do love me some progressive trivia! How are they going to work it for an overall winner on a cruise that is so long? Will they break up into mini-segments?

  2. Progressive is in Mini Segments. So far we've come in Second both Mini Cruises
